This June at the Deaf Institute a very interesting kind of “cover band” will be playing. Based around DJ Shadow’s famous album “Endtroducing”, Introducing will be taking the original samples from the album and mixing them live, making for a new twist on an old classic. This is in fact Introducing’s return to Manchester, they have previously played at venues such as Band on the Wall and Club Academy to critical acclaim so this is definitely worth checking out. Tickets are going from £13.50 so if you’re a DJ Shadow fan or just haven’t realised it yet, give this a look!

Dot to Dot Festival 2012 is styling an impressive lineup this June, with the likes of The Drums, Pulled Apart By Horses, Willy Mason and many more playing the Deaf Institute for one day. In fact the UK’s only touring festival Dot to Dot will be making stops in Nottingham and Bristol before reaching Manchester. Tickets are also going for a cracking £20 so you’re really getting you’re moneys worth! So whether you’re an indie lover or a pop punker, or just a bit of a rocker, this will probably be you’re cup of tea.

Hailing from Scotland, alternative folk rock band Kassidy have more recently been gaining popularity after performances at major festivals such as Glastonbury and T in the Park. With an acoustic indie sound that is reminiscent of the likes of Nash and Young, Kassidy bring an old school sound into a more modern perspective. With tickets also going for £8, you might as well check it out, it’s a steal sure!
Liars are a band that have moved between many sub-genres of the experimental rock spectrum in their time and they are not without critical acclaim. Best known for their “Drum’s Not Dead”, “Liars” and “Scissorworld” albums they are a band that may not have hit mainstream popularity but are very much revered within the alternative rock community. They will be playing the Ruby Lounge on the 15th of June for a steal at £12! So if you’re free it would be highly recommended you give this a look!

Lucy Wainwright Roche comes from a strong background of musicians. Daughter of a 2010 Grammy award winner and half-sister to Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright it would only make sense that she would have come down this route. With a sound that has roots in folk and a homely feel, one could expect a mellow tone to the night. Tickets are very affordable at £8 a pop, so give it a wee look see why not!

Want something to do on the cheap on the 11th of June? Then look no further than the Ruby Lounge as La Sera brings you a night of poppy, punky rock. Touring with her newly released “Sees the Light” album, La Sera’s music echoes of the Pixies and yet still retains a sense of freshness. Tickets are also a steal, going for a ridiculous £7! So definitely check this one out, sure it’s almost worth going just for the price!

Having supported for the Pixies and played in many John Peel sessions, CUD, the indie rock band from Leeds have performed their fair share of gigs. While critically acclaimed they unfortunately never reached mainstream popularity, but with several top 40 singles and albums they are easily one of the most underrated British acts of the era. They will be performing at the Ruby Lounge, with tickets going for a very reasonable £12.50. So if you like the sound of a funk laced night of classic rock definitely check it out!

Nebraskan indie rockers Cursive shall be performing at the Ruby Lounge on the 4th of June with guest, singer songwriter, Kevin Devine. Best known for their critically appraised “Mama, I’m Swollen” LP, Cursive will be playing old classics and new material from their most recent “I am Gemini” release. Tickets are a fairly priced £10 so cost shouldn’t be a problem.

The Urban Voodoo Machine are a difficult band to define. The growling bluesy vocals of lead man Paul-Ronney Angel, the gypsy-folk-like instrumentation and yet all with a tone of classic rock makes this band truly unique. Having been described as “The most exiting technicolor racket..done with style and swagger.” by Classic Rock magazine, this promises to be an evening like no other. The Urban Voodoo Machine will be playing the Ruby Lounge at £12.50 per ticket. So get on it!!
From the folksier end of the indie spectrum comes Anais Mitchell, joined by the Young Man Band, consisting of guitarist Adam Levy, violinist Jenny Sheinman and mandolinist Chris Thile to name but a few. Don’t let the thought of indie folk put you off however, Mitchell brings much of the greatness of the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Beirut to the mix while retaining her own unique sound. She will be playing the Ruby Lounge for a very reasonable £11 so check it out!

Resident Mancunian DJ, Mr Scruff, will be joined on Saturday 2nd of June at Band on the Wall by MC Kwasi for a night with everything from jazz to dubstep. Mr Scruff, best known for his funky tunes and quirky, personalised album artwork is renowned world wide so seeing him in his home town is something any gig goer should experience. Tickets are £11 advance but there will be 100 tickets at £12 on the door. A highly recommended event!

On the 6th of June, James Blake will be gracing us with his presence, performing a DJ set under his Harmonimix persona at a currently secret location. He will be joined by the grime MC and ex Roll Deep member Trim, big beat Londoner Riz MC and Bristol man Hyetal in what promises to be a night of quality, bass driven music. Tickets are going for a very reasonable £9 and are likely to sell out, so get on this one quick. Highly recommended!
